Families across Central Illinois are invited to a free day of play at Main Street Play Cafe in Morton on Saturday, July 18th from 9AM to 5PM. Admission is sponsored by Parker & Parker Attorneys at Law, opening every play slot for the entire day to the community at no cost.

“Community is built one family at a time, and Central Illinois has been very good to ours and to the families we serve,” said Rob Parker, owner of Parker & Parker Attorneys at Law. “Partnering with Main Street Play Cafe on July 18th is our small way of saying thank you.”

Main Street Play Cafe is built as a “tiny town” of miniature playhouses sponsored by real local businesses, where children ages 0 to 12 can step into the roles of bank tellers, builders, doctors, lawyers, hair stylists, realtors and dozens of other community jobs. The cafe was designed by Mallory Swanson, a mom of four and registered nurse, to be a place for families to spend time creating memories while being imaginative.

Parker & Parker sponsors one of the cafe’s playhouses, a miniature law office and courtroom, where any child can be an attorney or judge. The Peoria-based law firm has built its practice around families, helping them grow through adoptions, and helping them recover from personal injury. The law firm works with nearly 200 families a year to complete adoptions and many of those cases bring children into the courtroom for their own proceedings.

“Sitting in a courtroom can be daunting for an adult, let alone a child, and we work with hundreds of kids a year who navigate that setting because their family is in the process of adoption. It is a big day for a kid, and the room can feel even bigger,” said Rob Parker, owner of Parker & Parker Attorneys at Law. “We love that the play cafe lets any kid who comes through its doors see the legal world on their own terms.”

Families can register for a complimentary 1.5-hour play session through the Main Street Play Cafe website, Facebook page or by using the link below. Reservations are required to keep the cafe within capacity. Play slots will be released on a first-come, first-served basis.

“We’re looking forward to seeing the cafe full of families who might not have had a chance to explore the space yet,” said Mallory Swanson, owner of Main Street Play Cafe. “We are grateful to Parker & Parker for making it possible for so many families to come spend an afternoon learning and imagining with us.”
